Saint Patrick's Day Surprise (Cider Kidding 3/17/24)
On March 17th I had taken hay to the other animals when Cider screamed at me from the barn. A usual indicator that I was slow taking hay and treats out to everyone. Cider was two weeks out from her due date and I did not think anything of it. Fast forward to later that evening and I am feeling pleasantly sleepy, curled up on the couch watching a show.
Then, a scream came over the baby monitor at the same time I heard yelling on the TV. I froze for a millisecond before jumping up. Another scream and I was running for my muck boots. The fastest way to wake up is to discover a soaking wet buckling and your goat pushing out another. After a flurry of activity and 10 minutes, Cider had 3 babies on the ground. Two bucklings and a teeny weenie doeling.
My brain was spinning. Cider wasn’t due for another two weeks? Our chosen buck was not in the pen until 2 weeks later, at minimum!!!! Then it hit me like a thunder bolt. The stinker bred herself through the fence. She had taken advantage of being let out on a fall day and found a bad spot in the fence.
DNA testing will be required to determine who aided and abetted this chaos. I have a hunch going off how stellar these kids look. COUGAR MEADOWS RP WIZ BANG is my prediction going off of the width on these guys. Not to mention Bang is the only one who carries the swiss color pattern in my herd and one of the bucklings is a buckskin swiss combo kid.
What’s your guess? It’s either Flash or Bang.
